The Issue

Every day, dedicated field technicians have their livelihoods threatened by a broken, automated algorithm. The current Field Nation Provider Success Score (PSS) metrics are fueled by anonymous buyer feedback that unfairly penalizes independent contractors. This rigid system operates without nuance, instantly damaging or destroying the hard-earned ratings of once highly rated techs over minor, automated metrics.

The algorithm completely ignores the real-world realities of field service work:

  • The Support Nightmare: Trying to get these unjustified, automated negative stats reversed or removed through Field Nation support is a bureaucratic nightmare. Techs are left shouting into a void, trapped in endless loops with support teams that rarely offer a timely or meaningful resolution, leaving their scores ruined in the meantime.
  • No Structural Guidance for Improvement: Because the feedback is entirely anonymous and automated, technicians are left completely in the dark. The system delivers penalties for "shortcomings" without providing any context, rhyme, or reason. Without clear anchor points or actionable details, a tech is expected to improve their service without being told what actually went wrong.
  • Zero Credit for Loyalty: The metric takes absolutely no account of repeat client usage or a long-term, proven positive history with specific buyers.
  • Penalizing Human Error: A simple oversight or a slight delay in a manual update—incidents completely standard in human communication—is treated as a critical failure by the platform.
  • Punished Without a Complaint: Even when a buyer is completely satisfied and files no formal complaint, the algorithm continues to "chew forward," tanking scores based on automated technicalities that are entirely out of the provider's control.

How to Fix the PSS While Keeping Its Core Intent Intact
We understand that Field Nation needs a system to ensure quality on the platform. However, quality control cannot come at the cost of basic fairness and due process. To preserve the core intent of the PSS while protecting providers, Field Nation must implement the following structural corrections:

  1. Lift the Veil of Anonymity: Eliminate anonymous buyer feedback. If a buyer marks down a technician's score, that technician has a right to know the source, the context, and the specific work order tied to the deduction.
  2. End Unfair Branding, Flagging, and Tagging: Stop allowing the system to automatically tag and brand technicians with negative markers that hide behind subjective, catch-all categories.
  3. Define "Professionalism" and Eliminate Vague Penalties: The platform currently offers too many broad choices to negatively mark a provider. Subjective terms like "Professionalism" have no single, set definition and are frequently weaponized by buyers for minor personal preferences. Field Nation must eliminate these vague options and replace them with clear, strictly defined, and objective performance metrics.
  4. Establish a Transparent, Functional Appeal Process: When a technician is unfairly flagged, there must be a straightforward, rapid path to human review to get unjustified negative stats reversed immediately.
  5. REDEMPTIOIN: Make the process of removal or reversing much easier. Adding a redemption process that runs parallel to the Algorithm
