Nutella is a popular product worldwide and like many big-branded products contains sustainable palm oil.

Despite the company closely following the regulations under the RSPO , and being one of the top 5 companies following these regulations (whilst stating this to be a more environmentally friendly solution), recent reports from Greenpeace suggests that the use of sustainable palm oil is masking a much bigger problem. The demand is still there and not getting any smaller - the plantations still consume the rain forests, killing and endangering animals, which the world has turned a blind eye to. The question remains is whether there really can be such a thing as "sustainable palm oil?". Green peace feel that many farmers are still poorly treated and that large areas are still subjected to huge deforestation. Alternatives need to be considered. If we carry on like this, there will be no rain forests left in this world and the creatures of the rain forest will be under threat. I am sure that this is not the world we all want to be living in.

27 million HA of land are covered by  palm oil plantations; that could be 27 million HA of land that could've housed animals, trees and habitats. Ferrero's use of sustainable palm oil continues to increase the demand for palm oil production- sustainable or otherwise. It is difficult to believe that Ferrero and other major brands cannot find an adequate substitution and i believe that as a major brand with a huge following of consumers who are probably the same age as me, (sharing the same concerns for our environment) I would like to see them commit to this change and trail blaze a way out of this by looking at alternative solutions- ultimately to stop them from using any form of palm-oil in their products. They have the power and we want to see if they can lead us through with alternatives - Come on Ferrero we believe in you - you can help us to re-think about the use of sustainable palm oil and save our rain forests for the future generations of Nutella lovers.
