Recently, everyone was shaken by a tragic event that claimed the life of a child near an unprotected body of water. This heart-wrenching incident has deeply affected all of us, highlighting a critical need for enhanced safety measures around open water sources in Darwen. As residents, parents, and concerned citizens, it is paramount that we take immediate action to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

Children are naturally curious and often unaware of the dangers open water can present. In places like Ashton Park Pond, Bold Venture, and Sunnyhurst, these bodies of water are not adequately fenced or safeguarded, posing a significant risk to young explorers. Statistics show that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among young children, with open water being a substantial factor. We cannot afford to wait for another heartbreaking incident to implement essential preventive measures.

We call upon the Darwen Town Council to mandate fencing around all bodies of water in public parks. These fences should be robust, aesthetically pleasing, and ensure children's safety while not restricting the natural beauty of our beloved parks. By installing protective barriers, we can provide peace of mind for parents and caregivers, knowing that our children can explore safely.

Additionally, implementing educational programs about water safety for children and their families would further enhance our community's protection. Workshops and informative sessions can equip families with the knowledge needed to understand and respect water dangers while enjoying our beautiful parks.

Let's come together to urge our local government to prioritize child safety by ensuring that all open waters in our public parks are fenced and secure. Sign this petition to show your support for a safer environment for our children and to help prevent senseless tragedies in our community.

Lets do all we can to keep are children safe!!!
