Release video Surveillance to Authorities and on the same day

Release video Surveillance to Authorities and on the same day
The Issue
This is Important because FedEx Employees could possibly steal personal property and there policies are set in place to protect themselves and not there customers. If you have a personal item with you and you turn away for one second and someone steals it, FedEx will not cooperate with the police and in fact review the tape themselves and tell the police what to believe. They do not release the video surveillance at all, so how do you know there telling the truth? How can you trust them to deliver your packages if they wont even protect there customers in there store?
Here is what happened to me 2 weeks ago at a FedEx Kinkos:
I was at the FedEx Kinkos in Fairfax VA Location: 13061 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway; Fairfax, VA 22033
I was at the copier machine and I was printing out some papers for an employment agency for a background check off of my usb port. I had my iPhone in my Michael Kors iPhone clutch/wallet as I was listening to music thru my bluetooth wireless headset. I was going back and forth picking up each paper from each file off of the machine. I was on an Adele song and then my music stopped playing and then i heard a beep and my phone disconnected from my bluetooth headset…my phone was fully charged, so why would this happen. I turned to my wallet and my phone was gone. I looked under the machine around in the cabinets and I ran outside to my car thinking maybe I did leave it in my car but the door was locked and found nothing. I ran back inside and went to the counter and spoke with an employee and told him if I could use his computer to get on iCloud because I think my iPhone was just stolen. He said I would have to use one of the computers over there and pay for it. I looked at him and he just looked at me adn he repeated himself. I ran to one computer and it wasnt working. I ran to another computer and got on iCloud and it said cannot locate iPhone, I paid $.63 on the dollar just to do this since he didn't want to help. I went up to the employee again and said my iPhone was stolen. He said well then call the police???? I repeated and said my "Phone" was stolen. He said you can use one of the phones over there and then went back to helping a customer. I was angry. I noticed the only person around me who was to the copy machine on my left was leaving and left in his car. I called the police and gave the license plate to the dispatcher just in case it was him.
While I was waiting I saw cameras. I asked another employee if we can see the video surveillance when the officer gets here. He replied that only the store manager has access and she has left for the day as she lived in MD and won't be back till Monday. I said my phone was stolen. He said sorry she has gone for the day...you would think they would want to help. He said they don't have the code to get in the camera system and only the store manager does. I said well can you try calling the manager instead of telling me what you can't do. He said he would try but there no guarantee she would come. I called my mother on the Fedex phone and no answer. I called my father to get ahold of my mother to let he no my phone was stolen as I was on her phone plan to report it stolen with sprint.
An officer showed up and she took down my statement and asked how much was the value of the iphone. I went over what type of phone, what the man next to me looked like and what I was doing when the phone disappeared. The officer said he lived down the road and would get a statement. She left and my mother called the main line and the employee said my mother was on. I told her what happened and told her that the employees were not helping. My mother is the CFO for a Museum, but used to manage a law firm for 15+ yrs. She said she was going to call FedEx advocate as this was insane that they were not cooperating and the way they were treating me.
The officer came back and said he denied any wrong doing. We went back over what I was doing at the time…the officer looked everywhere including my car and asked if I checked my person and I said yes. She started asking me questions…did I notice any employees around me…I said I wasn't paying attn. I had my back turned to the wallet when I was grabbing papers, the wallet was to the right of my machine…the other customer was to my left at another machine. At that point she then proceeded to collect the names of all employees that were working during the occurrence. The officer inquired about the security cameras and requested to speak to manager. I called my mother to see if she was able to get ahold of corporate. She picked up and had them on her office speaker phone as she was talking to them and corporate said that this was there policy and that only the manager had access to the camera. My mother said to me Crystal are you listening to this..I said yes. My mother expressed the same frustration the police officer had regarding their policy and delay in getting access to the video surveillance. The FedEx employee from Corporate said you can ask the manager to see the cameras and my mother repeated herself and said thats what we are trying to do but are unable to get ahold of the manager as she is not at the store. The person from Fedex offered to get in contact with the manager and my mother said yes please. The officer came over to me as I was on the phone with my mother and she said one of the employees changed there statement and said that the manager had given one of them the code to the system and said they were about to review it. I told my mother the news and hung up.
The officer and I walked toward the front counter and then the phone rang and it was corporate…after my mother just told them that the manager was not at the store. The officer got on the phone with them as the employee handed her the phone. The other employees cell phone rang and it was the manager. The employee handed the officer the cell phone and she placed the line phone on the counter. The officer talked with the manager. The manager asked her where the theft happened and the officer told her the machine I was at and then I heard "oh its not" and she looked at the area where the cameras are directed and asked about the one that was in the corner. I also overheard the police officer replied "yes Ive been here before"…
The officer hung up with the manager and asked to speak with me outside and not in the store. As soon as we got out of the doorway outside the officer told me I didn't want them to over hear and start talking with each other about what I say. She told me that the manager will be in on Monday and there going to review the tape. She told me that the manager said she didn't want them going thru the equipment as its very complicated. The officer said she believes that part because her experience working with security equipment can get complicated. She told me that unfortunately even though as many cameras as they have where I was stationed the manager is saying there is not footage for that specific corner…how convenient I said. She also told me but there were cameras elsewhere and maybe they didn't conceal the phone before going out of range of the other cameras, but unable to confirm until they review the tapes. I was upset and started crying and the officer told me she works a different rotation next week and would review the footage on Monday and she is off Tuesday but would get back with me Wednesday.
I went home and called corporate and got ahold of Carmen Echols and told her what happened. She asked if I had insurance and I explained to her that Apple warranty does not cover the theft of property. She said I don't know what our policy is but she said maybe we can replace your phone but I'm not sure. She said she would send this to upper management and express urgency. I told her to have him contact my mother as she knows everything and at this moment I have no phone other then my Skype # but id have to be logged in. I called back a little later and got a operator and left a message with them letting them know the Officers information and case#.
I spoke to mother last night and she said someone did contact her and was trying to imply I was probably moving around and they don't have cameras in that specific corner because its an invasion of privacy. My mother asked why couldn't they send the manager out to review the tape right there and he said that the manager was ill left for the day, and it would not have "served any purpose to send her out there". The employees did not mention she left due to illness. They said she had left for the day and her next scheduled day wasn't till Monday.
The fact of the matter is there covering themselves from any liability. The officer and how she is questioning employes along with the behavior the employees exhibited has led me to believe an employee did this. FedEx and there employees were not cooperating and it was like pulling teeth. Only an employee would know that that area is not video taped and if the employee concealed it and they won't let us review the tape till Monday and see that an employee was in fact near me at the time of the incident they can search his belongings but by that time he had plenty of time to get rid of the stolen phone.
The following day my mother received a phone call from the officer and she had forgotten she had training all next week, but would review the tape the following week and confirmed they entered the phone in the system incase someone tries to sell it at a pawn store. I was frustrated, but it would have not made a difference because it wasn't going to be the day it was stolen anyways. The following week I received a phone call from the officer and she informed me that FedEx advised her that she saw nothing on the video Surveillance. I asked her what do you mean advised her? I asked did you not review it? She said no, they can choose to release the tape or view it themselves. I was angry, but the officer said there was nothing further she could do.
I contacted Coporate 11/20 and spoke to there executive dept other than Carmen Echols previously. She contacted the store to talk to the manager because she said there was nothing she could do. She called and of course the store manager is not there. She said she would have the store manager call me the next day which was Wednesday 11/21. I awaited and received no phone call.
I believe FedEx did this to cover themselves and I think I am not the first person this has happened to. I think FedEx policy is not to there to protect the privacy of the customers but to keep themselves from being liable of any theft even if it was one of there own employees. Your assistance would be most appreciated. I was recently laid off and having to purchase a replacement iPhone is going to cost me $549 and I simply cannot afford it.
Please help as FedEx needs to have there policies changed and need to Not only release the video surveillance to the customer and authorities, but on the same day it is stolen.
