The Issue

As an Army veteran, I have experienced the grueling impact of chronic pain, depression, and anxiety firsthand. Despite my sacrifices and service, I am currently denied access to what could be a transformative and natural medical option—cannabis. This injustice is one faced by countless Americans who seek relief from similar conditions.

Cannabis has shown potential benefits in managing pain and improving mental health without the addictive properties and adverse side effects associated with many prescription medications. Despite these benefits, current legal restrictions limit adult access to cannabis. It is time for a change.

First, legalize cannabis for adult use across the United States and regulate it similarly to alcohol. This step would ensure that responsible adults can access cannabis safely and legally. Second, eliminate employment drug testing for cannabis. Adult individuals should not fear losing employment or being discriminated against for using a substance deemed legal by the state and beneficial for personal health. Finally, adults should have the right to cultivate cannabis at home, just as they would grow tomatoes or flowers, recognizing personal use as a private right.

Many states have already made strides to regulate cannabis effectively, showing a path forward with promising economic and social outcomes. In Colorado, for instance, cannabis legalization resulted in over $1.2 billion in new revenue in just five years, which was reinvested into education and infrastructure. A similar approach at the national level could drive significant economic benefits and social equity.

In the broader push for social justice, legalizing cannabis addresses systemic inequities, ensuring communities disproportionately affected by previous cannabis prohibitions are given the opportunity to thrive.

Join me in advocating for a fair and progressive cannabis policy. By signing this petition, you're supporting veterans and citizens alike in gaining access to a medicinally, economically, and socially beneficial resource. Let's push for fair cannabis laws that recognize personal rights and offer widespread benefits. Please sign this petition to make this vision a reality for everyone.
