Christian Porter is not suitable to serve as Minister for Industry, Science and Technology. He has no credentials in industry, science or technology and the recent allegations around him in relation to the treatment and respect of women have made him a wholly divisive individual. 

In the midst of a global pandemic, science and technologies are critical to our handling of the COVID19 crisis and the health and welfare of Australians. The  creation of a knowledge nation, fuelled by an appreciation and investment in research and science, is crucial to rebuilding our economy and tackling the major crises of the 21st century. This is being done in the USA and Europe, with major increases in investment in research. With all the "noise" surrounding Christian Porter, it is not possible to give this important role the time, energy and commitment it requires. 

We are calling for Christian Porter to be stood down as the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology and request the government appoint an appropriate MP into this critical role at this important time. We need and deserve a stronger commitment to STEMM in Australia.
