Federal Minister of Health: Ban the use of Methylene Chloride in products for consumer use.

Federal Minister of Health: Ban the use of Methylene Chloride in products for consumer use.

The Issue

Methylene chloride is considered by many regulatory agencies to cause cancer and has been linked to to over 50 worker deaths in North America since the mid-1980s. This chemical regularly used as a solvent is banned from many uses in Europe yet still available in multiple products for consumer use in Canada. Cancer in people caused by methylene chloride can take years to develop and is more difficult to document. Despite decades of knowledge about these toxic health effects, methylene chloride remains poorly regulated. Easily inhaled and absorbed by the skin this toxic chemical does not belong in products we use everyday. Methylene Chloride is found in consumer products such as spray shoe polish, water repellents, spot removers, wood floor and panel cleaners, adhesive removers, lubricants, wood stains, varnishes and finishes, paint strippers and graffiti removal products, rust removers, and much more. Lets join together and get the Canadian Government to ban methylene chloride from consumer products in Canada. Protecting Canadians from carcinogenic chemicals like methylene chloride can prevent cancer and save lives. Sign this petition today if you think methylene chloride should be banned from consumer products in Canada now!
