Stroke survivors need our support
The issue
It’s not as simple as having a stroke and life goes on. My daughter helped to save my life when I had my stroke and my family was an amazing help for my recovery. But it was a tough road and so many times we felt lost and we weren’t sure where to turn. Join me in asking our health minister to fund a support system for stroke survivors and their families so recovery is a reality for everyone and not just the lucky ones.
Recovery from stroke isn't easy and it's different for everyone. I get more tired that you can ever imagine and I’ve had to battle the challenges that come with life after stroke - depression, fear and anxiety. It’s been made all that much harder because I don’t show a lot of physical disability and people assume that I’m ok.
I got amazing support from my family and friends but there are times when we felt that the health system could have been there for us but wasn’t. We needed help to understand what was happening to me and it was hard to navigate a system we’d never had to deal with before.
Stroke affects families in Australia in every single town and city. By adding your voice to the fight against stroke, we can change the record so every Australian impacted by stroke can get the follow-up support they need to recover. If the Government steps up to the plate then every survivor and their family will benefit from a support and information program.
Join the fight and tell our Federal Minister Sussan Ley that families devastated by stroke need her help. Ask her to fund better stroke survivor support services.
