Petition updateWe Won't Leave Anyone In Our Community Behind During COVID-19 PandemicReality of COVID-19 for People Seeking Asylum Three Months In
Catholics for Refugees
May 19, 2020

It has been over three months since COVID-19 hit Australia. It is only now that we are seeing the full extent of the devastating impacts that it is having on temporary migrants: hunger, overcrowded living, family separation, domestic violence, crippling uncertainty, anxiety and depression. Some State Governments have recognised the gravity of the situation and have rolled out relief or support packages for certain groups of temporary migrants.

NSW is the latest State Government to oblige, providing $20 million in temporary support to international students. A positive to support people in need, but ultimately a band aid solution for longer change at the Federal level. We know that many people seeking asylum have been living in Australia for years whilst their claims for protection are adjudicated on. They have had jobs, paid taxes, started families, and built community here. They cannot go home because they fear harm. They are part of our community and must not be left behind in this time of need.

We urge you to share this petition with 5 friends today as we need to make sure everyone has access to a safety net, no matter where they live, during this time.
