Raise the consequences/fines to those who release huge amounts of air pollution.
The Issue
This petition will help increase the fines of those who violate the Clean Air Act. We want to raise the fine by 25% and use that money towards finding alternate energy sources. Company's like Cosco only pay $335,000 annually for violating the Clean Air Act's regulations. The solution of higher consequences like paying high fines or threatening to close down those who don't follow the the federal air quality standards can highly benefit the economy. It can help the government because if people fail to reach the standards than the government can use that money to pay for cleaning the air. Also it can help reduce the amount of taxes citizens pay. “taxpayers, spent $103,600,000 per year to treat patients suffering from air pollution”(huckins, ABC 1). So if we put this solution into play it’ll help the levels of air pollution go down and taxpayers don't have to waste their money on helping pay for people being treated from air pollution effects.
