Abolish the Death Penalty

Abolish the Death Penalty
The Issue
The death penalty is a state-sanctioned practice of killing someone as punishment for a crime. Not only is it barbaric, it violates the constitutional ban against cruel punishment. The government should not have the right to kill human beings. If someone truly deserves such a punishment, then they should be sentenced to life in prison, where they will truly suffer.
The death penalty is the denial of civil liberties and goes against the values and morals of our system.
Pervis Payne is currently on death row, he has an intellectual disability and has maintained innocence for more than 30 years. He was originally set to be executed on December 2nd, 2020. That date has now been moved to April 9th, 2021. Read more about Payne and sign the petition to keep him alive - https://innocenceproject.org/petitions/stop-execution-pervis-payne/
