The minimum wage in Nigeria is 18,000 Naira which is equivalent to $75. Among Nations of Nigeria's caliber, this is one of the lowest amounts. Recently, a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria stated that dogs in government houses cost more than 18,000 Naira to maintain. Are our leaders saying that we should be treated as dogs? Some of our so-called leaders take home salaries equal to those of their counterparts in developed nations such as UK, USA, etc, but find it hard to pay Nigeria's citizens same with their counterparts in the above mentioned countries. The children of some of these leaders fly first class on all travels, school in the best schools in the world and collect pocket-monies 100 times the minimum wage paid to ordinary Nigerians. It's high time our leaders raised the minimum wage in the country to reflect the level of hardship in the country.
