The issue

Today when going through my daily dose of news by the ABC, I came across an article entitled 'Eating Disorder Helpline to be Axed'. This immediately took my interested and upon opening the article I read of how 'The Butterfly Foundation', Australia's only dedicated eating disorders support line, is said to lose funding and be axed within the next 12 months. Mental health disorders and suicide are the leading causes of death for both males and females in Australia aged between 15-44, and among this, anorexia has the highest death rate of any mental illness. One in ten people who suffer from an eating disorder are dead within ten years, and when taking in the statistics of just how many of these disorders are affecting young people, this is truly horrifying for something that can and should be preventable. The butterfly foundation is an incredibly important service for helping all people affected by eating disorders and negative body image, and are dedicated in seeking treatment for recovery and advocating for improved services from both government and independent sources. It is imperative that Australia continues its support for this service that continues to fight for the improvement of mental illness and eating disorders. This cannot go unheard. Something needs to be done to stop this and a lot of it comes from basic support. Please help us in our efforts to speak to the Federal Government on the importance of this issue and continue funding for this incredibly important service.
