Research project for MO may be back on the GO !!!

The Care4esK Koala research project that will allow Mo and his Koala companions here in Esk, to have some of their important data gathered, has thankfully been given another chance of proceeding.

The Somerset Regional Council met yesterday to make ammendments to the original letter that was issued to Care4esK last week. This letter had stated the unreasonable and unworkable time frame, that prevented the Grant application from proceeding any further. Care4esKs attempts to negotiate with the Councils Acting CEO, had resulted in the  definitive NO.

The above meeting followed many further discussions throughout this last week, between Care4esK members, our Mayor and several of our Councillors.

Care4esK also supplied very positive letters of support to Council, from the current Labor Federal member Shayne Neumann, Liberal State member Deb Frecklington, and from Traditional Custodians.

The Somerset Regional Council have now extended their provisional support for this University led Koala research project being proposed by Care4esK.

The extended timeframe now allows Care4esK and the project's stakeholders, to continue with our Grant application, and to hopefully make tomorrow evening's deadline.

Whilst the new timeframe given by Somerset Regional Council may not be ideal, given that it is still shorter than the initial request, our team believes our project will still be able to provide positive and necessary outcomes, to ensure that the Koalas of Esk, have been given some hope for their future.

Care4esK are appreciative to the Somerset Regional Council for the support that has finally been offered.
It appears that Council were eventually able to see the merit of our project, to recognise and understand the importance of the Conservation and Protection, for just one of Australia’s listed Endangered species, our global icon, the dear Koala.

Care4esK would wholeheartedly like to thank everyone who has spoken out in support of this issue and voiced their concerns to the Somerset Regional Council.

Our  united voices highlight the power of intervention, especially when a concerning disregard is being shown toward the management of our Environment and Wildlife in the Esk region.

Our next step is to receive this Grant.
So fingers and toes crossed, every body!
