Mount Glen Rock has some incredibly steep terrain, especially on the western face.
When the rains hit Mount Glen Rock, the sight is spectacular!
An abundance of streams gush down the mountain, waterfalls flow and new channels into existing waterways are created.
There are multiple, well-established waterways.
These streaming waterways become raging torrents when it rains. They literally roar down the mountain side!
The Mountain Bike trails that Somerset Regional Council propose to build, will not only cross this steep terrain, but they will also cross numerous gullies, like the one in the photo above. MTB trails will cross these gullies multiple times.
How?
Bridges?
Man-made bridges in this natural, untouched environment?
Bridges to be washed away, creating more debris and pollution for our waterways.
Or will MTB trails be carved across these beautiful gullies, only to be eroded away each time it rains?
To then be repaired repeatedly, at the ongoing expense of the Environment, the Flora and Fauna.
And the ongoing expense to Ratepayers.
Common sense alone reasons that these MTB trails should not be allowed.
We must help Council to understand the detrimental implications that this unnecessary Adventure Park on Mount Glen Rock will cause.
Just how much silt and debris will be deposited throughout Mount Glen Rock waterways, and into Sandy Creek below?
In a recent media release, Council proudly proclaimed to have over 50 letters of support for this MTB development.
If you do not wish to see this current development proceed, please consider writing to Council.
Only 2 lines are required.
Simply state that: You Do Not Support this current development, and then state Why.
We truly believe there is a better alternative.
Together, we can get well over 50 letters to Council opposing this current development proposal. Your action will make a difference.
