Covid-19 was a life changing moment for every person. Events such as Weddings, Sports Games, Concerts, and Graduations were cancelled indefinitely. For seniors in high school, that two week break period quickly turned into "Have a great summer." Although upsetting to hear at the time, cancelling graduation and prom was most definitely the right thing to do, as cases began sky rocketing. However, since the release of the Covid-19 vaccine, the lift of mandates in the state of Virginia have allowed celebrations to resume, permitting Class of 2021 to experience a prom, in person graduation, and all night grad party. In no way are we trying to take away those celebrations for class of 2021. However, we are now constantly reminded of all that we missed our senior year due to the pandemic. Graduation ceremony is an important milestone in a person's life where they can be recognized for their achievements and celebrate with those they love most. The entire FCPS Class of 2020 was ultimately stripped of that. I'm sure many students feel the same way and would appreciate an in person ceremony after working so hard for their one chance to be recognized. FCPS school board members, we ask of you to help provide our class with that one last celebration.
