The Issue

The landscape of AI is evolving quickly, far too quickly to understand its effects on children's developing minds, or its impact on their cognitive health and mental health. We do NOT want our children using Generative AI tools in the classroom.

We ask for a two-year moratorium that no Generative AI be allowed for use by students in grades K-8.

We ask for a one-year moratorium that no Generative AI be used in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade for the 2026-27 school year.

We ask that if Generative AI is used in 12th grade during the 2026-27 school year, that parents be given the option to fully opt-out their children from using it.

IF generative AI is used in grades 9-12 starting in the 2027-28 school year, we ask that it only be used in elective classes, and that such classes be designated during the class selection window as "AI-using classes." This will allow parents to know if generative AI is being used in those classes, and thus be able to restrict their students from choosing such classes if they don't want their 9th, 10th, 11th, or even 12th graders using generative AI.
