FBISD YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO HANDLE THE DELTA VARIANT! 

Schools in our district are about to open in less than 24 hours and as parents of young kids attending the FBISD schools, We are scared, angry and utterly frustrated at the management and execution of this school year! It's no secret that there has been a continuous surge in the covid-19 cases, mostly infected by the delta variant.

Here what FBISD should do immediately:
1. Push the date for the start of the school year for at least TWO weeks. The lack of preparedness to combat the spread of virus was evident during the meet and greet sessions this week. We did not see social distancing protocols set up for the school year. The last minute shift to possibly offering virtual school but not for all students that want it, as well as the lack of general preparedness that we saw on-site in schools shows us that FBISD needs more time to be ready for handling the delta variant!

2. Offer the option of virtual schooling to EVERYONE who requests it, unconditionally. There are examples of ISDs in Texas ( Frisco ISD, Austin ISD) offering virtual learning unconditionally. With a delay of two weeks, the district can put in a robust plan in place for the execution. You did this last year too and you amazed all of us with the thorough execution of virtual schooling.

3. Make the masking and following of other CDC recommended protocols mandatory for all the students, staff and visitors. Also, ensure adequate social distancing of at least 3-feet within the classes as well as at other areas within the schools including cafetaria. Those are proven prevention strategies that have helped contain the spread of the virus. Austin ISD, and Dallas ISD are defying the governor’s order to do what’s right for their kids! As the 8th largest ISD in the state we MUST do the same!

We are very concerned that the poorly executed plans to mitigate the delta variant exposure in FBISD will cause a number of kids to be infected with the very dangerous Delta Variant! And in turn force many other students to miss school in quarantine. We demand that you take the time to be more thoughtful in your execution of the 21-22 school year in FBISD!
