Fayetteville NC Federal Halfway House

Fayetteville NC Federal Halfway House
The Issue
The City of Fayetteville currently does not have a City Ordinance that specifically defines the term Halfway House, such as size or locations permitted. Because of this DISMAS Charities Inc., a private company that is contracted by the Federal Bureau of Prison is attempted to build a 14,339 Sqft 100 Bed Facility for Federal Offenders at 901-905 Cain Road and is calling it a Halfway House. Keep in mind, they are awarded Millions of Tax Payers Dollars to do so. Three sides of this large facility will be Residential Homes and Apartments. This will negatively impact surrounding property value and a safety issue.
On February 24th, by a Vote of 5-4 DISMAS was denied the Special Use Permit to build this facility. They appealed and on September 3rd Judge Tally affirmed the City Councils decision. It is now in the Raleigh Court of Appeals hands.
We must tell Fayetteville City Counsel and Mayor Colvin, we want changes in our City Ordinance and tighten Zoning laws so that this will protect us and others from Companies like DISMAS Charities Inc.
