The Issue

W.A.L aka We Are Law is pushing for the following demands to be enforced in our community in regard to the hiring and selection of law enforcement.

1. Complete the equivalent of an associate's degree in criminology & two levels of emotional intelligence training and certification. 

2. Thorough background check of social media history. 

3. Reference letters from multiple ethnic groups for admittance to law enforcement.

4. 3 complaints = automatic 1-month suspension and investigation of the officer. 

5. Post suspension training by another department to reduce the likelihood of the behavior repeating. 

6. Law Enforcement records are accessible by the public to track behavioral patterns. 

7. A community board to review any incidents in which physical force was seen justifiable. ( community board should be comprised of 3-5 people and of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds) 

8. Semi-annual psychological and emotional evaluations. 

9. Quarterly CIT ( crisis intervention team) training, which teaches individuals how to respond to individuals with mental challenges and illnesses. 

10. A requirement for body cams to be activated throughout the entire shift. Body cams are subjected to being checked at any point in time.If the cam is turned off officers can be charged with destruction of evidence. 

11. Immediate firing of anyone who kills an unarmed person, within reason of proof, requiring evidence of the victim reaching.

12. Bi-Weekly "Middle Ground" meetings between citizens and law enforcement to interact with the goal of bridging the cultural gap forming a concord.
