On Tuesday Nov 12 Specialized Real Estate Group (SREG) will be requesting approval from the City Planning Commission of their plans for destroying the woods on the north and south sides of Markham Rd and east side of Cross Rd, as well as the wooded pasture and woods on the east and west sides of Sang Ave. This is Phase 1 of their development project to destroy the 144-acre urban forest and natural habitat of Markham Hill.
The Planning Commission meeting is Tuesday Nov 12 at 5:30 pm in Room 219 City Hall 113 W Mountain Street in Fayetteville.
If you are against this, please come to the meeting and speak 1-3 minutes at the podium.
(1) Tell the Planning Commission why this mountain is worth saving for Fayetteville.
(2) Ask the developer SREG to please be willing to sell to a conservation group who will preserve the entire property. Several conservationists have expressed interest if SREG is willing to sell.
More and more residents in Fayetteville are wanting to save Markham Hill from development. They want this mountain inside Fayetteville to be preserved for its nature, wildlife, trees, birds, history, geology, archeology, Native American sites, flood prevention, clean water and air value, green infrastructure and potential east-west trail connectivity, etc. Markham Hill is part of Fayetteville's culture and history.
But a developer owns the land now and most City officials approve of their plans. We need to fight this! Help us speak out for our trees and neighborhoods. Please come to the meeting.
