I note that it was reported in The Echo newspaper dated 2nd October 2019 that Councillor Oliver Moran of the Green Party complained that an "outrageous power grab" was occurring in City Hall. I am of the opinion that his comments give indication of a lack of understanding among the Councillors of what exactly is happening and why. Blaming others for a "outrageous power grab" is just them accounting for their ineffectiveness further to the election.
For example..... the members of the previous Council were lax about how they conducted the business on behalf of the public and they let their power just slip away.... as they were so ineffective. Similarly so, the City Mayors then sitting were lax Chairmen of the Council and in their laxness they just gave away the power by failing their duties to properly defend the Councils position. This is reflected in the fact that some Committee Chairmen/women and Councillors in the last Council period did not effectively do their jobs and also that a number of senior and experienced Councillors then sitting never addressed the contents of their email inboxes.... that is they just kept them continually full unable to accept further emails. That is kind of non serving as it helps keep them in the dark as to what is going on. It is also another way of being effective at getting nothing done and just letting power slip away.
Another example..... it is also a poor reflection on those who approved the placing the tourist train at commercially non viable remote back street positions away from its targeted tourist customers when the contract says that we should have been operating from the center..... and not one of them ever complained about that in the past 4 years and thus they just allowed themselves to become irrelevant and powerless.
Councillors get appointed to positions in Cork City Council and then they just do not do the job that is expected of them on behalf of the public. They get elected as Councillors and then they begin to act like Employees. The Councillors and Mayors need to be doing their Councillor jobs.... and maybe Councillor Moran is on to something and he should point this out to his fellow Councillors and demand that they perform better. There is no point in the Councillors having power if they are going to abuse it, or if they are not going to exercise it in a fair manner for the benefit of all. At the moment, or as I have found out in the past they just serve their administration as if they were employees along with their own favoritism agendas without seeking proper or any accountability from themselves or their administration.
It is ironic ...... I as a member of the public was outside City Hall protesting about the "Economic Injustice of Unfair Licensing" in tourism as facilitated by the City Council and their efforts to position the train in commercially non viable pick up set down positions. That is the same Council that Councillor Moran sits on and he was inside complaining about a power grab rather than dealing with something in the real world that needs rectifying now as it has kept me out of employment for the past 4 years. In any event I do not think it was a power grab at all, it is more reflective of his Councillor colleagues past and present just letting the power slip away and that is a "outrageous" performance on their behalf.
Lets hope that Councillor Moran can succeed in his complaining in improving the performances of the unfair administrators as well. I do have to give him credit for at least raising the issue as it appears that he is thinking somewhat like a Councillor should be rather than like his colleagues who appear to be thinking in a ineffective non Councillor fashion and getting nothing done. It is good that somebody is standing up for the community.
