More awareness and education is needed about the civil rights protections afforded under the ADA and section 504 concerning anaphylaxis. How does FARE plan to advocate for the anaphylactic community without representing them?
We are attempting to increase the awareness of the fact that food allergies can be life threatening - and are for many. FARE should have the term anaphylaxis in their name and should also be adamantly teaching others about what anaphylaxis is, how to prevent it, and how to respond in the event of an anaphylactic reaction. Many people have worked for years to increase awareness to the fact that food allergies can cause anaphylaxis. By removing the name now in the title it minimizes the severity of what food allergies truly have the potential of doing. We need the name back in there as a means to educate the public. We need the name back in there as a means to show support to all the families living with and managing this. Anaphylaxis is very real, and it is happening, and we live our lives daily to avoid it from happening - and we don't want to 'erase' that fact.
