The Fannin County Courthouse is undergoing a beautiful renovation, but our town square will remain ugly if we continue to glorify the slavery and racism by keeping up the Confederate Statue that is on the courthouse grounds.  

The statue is part of our history, and our history should not be erased.  In fact, we need to do more to learn about our local histories, especially the most painful parts. We could move the statue to a museum and use it as a tool to teach about racial injustice. Learning about history will help us do better.  Unquestioning glorification of the past  leaves us stuck in the past.  Let's move that statue where it belongs, into history!
