Family Conjugal Visits to Tennessee Prisons

Das Problem

Strong families build strong communities — even behind prison walls.

Tennessee’s prison system currently does not allow conjugal or extended family visits. Inmates who maintain healthy family bonds are proven to be less likely to reoffend after release and more likely to succeed in rebuilding their lives.

States like California, New York, Washington, and Connecticut already offer family visits — and it’s working. It’s time for Tennessee to follow their lead.

We respectfully urge the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) and state lawmakers to create a policy that allows incarcerated individuals, who meet good conduct and eligibility standards, to have extended family visits with their spouses and children.

Family connection is not a privilege — it’s a pathway to rehabilitation, safer prisons, and a stronger Tennessee. Sign this petition to show your support for giving families a chance to stay together!
