DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF GRIFFIN PARK FALL RIVER MA

DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF GRIFFIN PARK FALL RIVER MA
The Issue
To be read into the record at the Planning Board Public Hearing citizen's input on February 9th, 2022.
We the undersigned strongly oppose the re-naming of Griffin Park in Fall River's Corky Row. At the end of WWII Griffin Playground was named after Staff Sergeant James T. Griffin on the site of the former Davenport School which burned down in 1942.
Still to this day The Corky Row Club and Griffin Park have honored veterans and enriched the Corky Row neighborhood . A compilation of Corky Row History detailing Corky Row war time service , the neighborhood families, schools and youth programs will be submitted to further emphasize the importance of retaining the history .
Although the city parks are paid for by the city residents , Griffin park has been named after James T Griffin killed in action in WWII dating back 77 years.
Re-naming or adding a hyphenated name to Griffin park will take away the decades of meaning for every citizen that has been touched by their family members service to their country.
For these reasons we insist the Planning Board, Park Board and City Council further research the history of Griffin Park in Corky Row and deny any proposal to change the James T. Griffin Park name.
