Let Them Walk

The Issue

Seniors and parents alike feel that graduates of Falconer Central School deserve the opportunity to walk the stage and have a traditional ceremony. This is a once in a lifetime experience, and we do not want our children missing out on this occasion. Our school board has decided to host a “virtual graduation” for our students, which takes away any personal meaning of graduation. Our seniors are broken-hearted and disappointed by this decision. We fully understand the safety concerns, but we also understand that these graduates are mature and intelligent enough to use caution in a traditional ceremony. If supermarkets can remain open without issue, why can we not let these seniors walk a stage? They have worked hard for many years for this moment, so let them walk.
We are proposing a postponement until June 25th to August 10th as we understand that some students are planning on leaving for college. This will give ample time for planning a ceremony and hopefully within this time the restrictions on gatherings will be lifted. While this is later than most ceremonies in the past, this is the ideal solution to such a disappointing and stressful situation these seniors are dealing with. We would also like to propose that the ceremony be recorded and broadcasted on the FCS webpage and Facebook page so that we can insure that no one is left out of this momentous occasion.
