In John 7:24, the Bible states:
Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment.
After being bullied over wearing her hair in it's God-given form, Vanessa VanDyke and her mother contacted Faith Christian Academy for help. Rather than Faith Christian Academy making the "right judgment" by confronting the bullies in the school, the school threatened to expel the victim if she refused to straightened her hair instead.
Vanessa VanDyke made it known that her hair was a unique part of herself that she did not want to change. A child should not have to choose between her education and her genetics.
It find it quite appalling for a Christian academy to fault a student for presenting herself in the way that God made her. They recommended that she alter a beautiful, natural feature of herself in a way that may damage it. To reject her natural appearance is to reject God's work.
Here are some reminders for Faith Christian Academy:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." -Genesis 1:27
"But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." -1 Samuel 16:7
Faith Christian Academy owes Vanessa an apology.
Help open up Faith Christian Academy's eyes to how they have wronged this innocent girl, so that she and any other student that may attend after her will not have to put up with incidents like these.
Let them know that a student should never be faulted for wearing their natural hair, whether curly or straight. And have Faith Christian Academy hold Vanessa VanDyke's bullies accountable for their actions.
