Fairleigh Dickinson University has decided to not allow graduates walk across the stage and have their name called during the graduation ceremony. Instead, students will have to travel back to their campus (40 minute drive without traffic) in order to have their names being called. Travel alone is going to be difficult with traffic leaving the graduation, driving to the campus, then attempting to find parking at a school that doesn't even have enough parking for students that live on campus. These ceremonies on both campuses will not allow for the same amount of family and friends to come support these graduates based on the size. Neither campus have the appropriate space to house such an event. This decision will taint a moment that is supposed to memorable for many. This decision is due to graduates/supporters leaving during the ceremony and wanting to cut down on time. Not only is that unfair to the students, it is also unfair the family. Parents/guardians pay a lot of money for their loved one to attend FDU. So to take away the recognition they deserve for their hard work is unfair and unjust. 

The goal of this petition is to give us (Class of 2019) the opportunity to voice our opinion about this decison that was made without being discussed. This decision not only affects the students but the family that travel far to see their loved one be recognized. This notion should also prove how important graduation is to us and how appreciative we will be for the chance to walk across that stage.
