STOP AMERICAN LEGION Post 177 REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT - Fairfax, VA

STOP AMERICAN LEGION Post 177 REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT - Fairfax, VA
We object to this redevelopment effort for the following reasons:
1. The KILLING of ALL of the 75 year OLD oak trees in front of the Post, after which Oak Street is named, and the killing of all other trees on the property;
2. Massive sudden increase in population density in a very small area (2/10th sq mile) caused by a total of three redevelopment efforts: Breezeway, Paul VI, and American Legion
3. Increased traffic congestion resulting from these three simultaneous development projects with inadequate roads to handle it
4. Loss of 7+ acres of OPEN GREEN SPACE. This is one of the FEW OPEN SPACES left in the City. This project will see the new development of 7 - 7.5 acres. The Legion property on which sits McDonalds and the school will not be touched.
5. Insufficient parking space has been allocated for American Legion use with the new project. The Post will no longer be able to handle parking Legion Riders on Memorial Day or accommodate large gatherings such as the annual Family Picnic out of doors. Overflow parking will end up on the street or in the neighborhoods and will interfere with traffic flow and deprive the neighbors of their parking.
6. The existing GREEN SPACE of the front lawn will be gone! and replaced by buildings. The new building will sit about 8 feet off of Oak street, a lot closer to the street than the condo's next door.
7. The City of Fairfax is already over populated
This petition is supposed to get greater exposure as a result of the donations. The donations do not go to our cause however.
