The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Greenridge, formally petition Maryland Water Service, Inc. and relevant local authorities to address the excessive water rates currently imposed on our community. Access to clean and affordable water is a fundamental necessity, yet the ongoing price increases have placed an undue financial burden on households in our area.

Since 2017, we have witnessed an astronomical 375% rise in our water rates. A grueling 81% increase occurred just between December 2024 and January 2025 alone. With the rapidly inflating costs, it is becoming almost impossible for us to afford this basic necessity. But we know from speaking with our neighbors that we are not the only ones in this predicament - many others in our community are also struggling to keep up with these outrageous increases.

The situation is clearly not sustainable. Water is a fundamental human right, not a luxury. And yet, the costs we are currently bearing are more akin to luxuries we cannot afford. It is unjust that we should be forced to pay these exorbitant rates or face a water-shutoff.

This situation calls for an immediate solution. We request the powers that be to either reduce these exorbitant water rates to affordable levels or change the water supplier for the Greenridge, Bel Air neighborhood. If the current water supplier is incapable of providing water at reasonable rates, it's high time to find a supplier who can.

The struggle for water should not be a distinguishing feature of life in Greenridge. It's crucial that we come together as a community and demand change. Sign this petition to support the call for decreased water rates or a new water supplier for our neighborhood. Don't let us pay a premium for a basic right.
