Over the years, the cost of operating a vehicle has increased significantly. Drivers continue to face rising expenses, including:

- Licensing and compliance expenses

- General inflation and cost of living increases

Despite these escalating operational costs, driver earnings have not increased proportionately. Many drivers are struggling to cover expenses, maintain their vehicles, and earn a reasonable income.

We therefore call on Bolt South Africa to:

- Conduct an immediate review of fare structures.

- Increase base fares and per-kilometre rates to reflect current economic conditions.

- Introduce periodic fare reviews linked to fuel prices and inflation.

- Engage directly with driver representatives when considering pricing policies.

2. Removal of the "Wait & Save" Option

While the "Wait & Save" feature may offer riders discounted fares, it often places an unfair burden on drivers.

Drivers regularly experience situations where:

- Ride requests are assigned to drivers located far from the passenger.

- Drivers travel significant distances to the pickup point without adequate compensation.

- Time and fuel are consumed before a trip even begins.

- Earnings per trip are substantially reduced.

This negatively impacts driver profitability and increases unnecessary vehicle operating costs.

We therefore call on Bolt South Africa to:

Remove the "Wait & Save" option entirely; or

Redesign the system to ensure rides are allocated to the nearest available driver and that drivers are fairly compensated for extended pickup distances.

Why This Matters

A sustainable e-hailing industry depends on drivers being able to earn a fair income while providing safe, reliable, and professional transportation services.

When drivers are forced to operate at unsustainable rates:

- Service quality may decline.

- Vehicle maintenance may be delayed due to financial constraints.

- Driver morale and retention are negatively affected.

- Passenger safety may ultimately be compromised.

We believe that fair compensation for drivers is in the best interests of Bolt, passengers, and the broader transport sector.

Adjust fares to reflect current fuel prices, inflation, and operating costs.

Remove or fundamentally reform the "Wait & Save" feature.
