“Fair Play Beyond the Pitch: Protect Bangladesh in the World Cup”

The Issue

We, the people of Bangladesh, urge the ICC to take our country’s safety concerns seriously regarding the upcoming World Cup in India.

Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was selected by KKR for the IPL and had a full No Objection Certificate from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

However, under pressure from extremist groups in India and implicit interference from the Indian government, BCCI blocked him from playing, citing “security concerns.” He never got the chance to play.

This raises serious concern: if the safety of a single player cannot be guaranteed, how can Bangladeshi players, journalists, and supporters travel safely for the World Cup? The BCB formally requested alternative venues, with Sri Lanka suggested as a backup, just like Pakistan had done. But these options were blocked due to BCCI interference.

Decisions by the Indian government, BCCI, and ICC leadership appear arbitrary and biased. While the president of ICC & BCCI is son of the Home Minister Amit Shah(Representing extremist Govt. Ruling Party BJP).

In the ICC vote, Bangladesh received support only from Pakistan and itself, while 14 votes went against it, despite valid security concerns.

Now Bangladesh risks being excluded from the World Cup.

We demand that the ICC:

  • Take Bangladesh’s security concerns seriously
  • Ensure impartial, politically independent decisions
Guarantee the safety of players, journalists, and supporters.
  • Ignoring legitimate security concerns and penalizing Bangladesh will go down as a disgrace in cricket history.
  • A new venue for Bangladesh.

Every Bangladeshi deserves to enjoy the game we love without fear for their safety.
