Fair International Pricing for TV Tropes' Ad-Free Subscription in 2025

The Issue

Hello We, the global users and fans of TV Tropes, are calling for change. The ongoing global economic crisis, compounded by the 2025 trade war and the inflexible U.S.-centric pricing structure of the ad-free subscription, is making it increasingly unaffordable for users outside the United States. We urge TV Tropes to revise its global pricing and payment methods to ensure equitable access for all.

TV Tropes is a beloved community resource used by millions worldwide.
In 2025, the global economy has worsened, with rising inflation, regional currency devaluation, and increased tariffs.
Payment platforms like PayPal and Stripe have amplified the problem through high fees, currency markups, and inconsistent access.

Users in Canada, Latin America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and other non-U.S. regions are being priced out of TV Tropes' ad-free experience.
The flat U.S. pricing model ignores local economic conditions.
Fans are either overpaying or unable to subscribe due to regional financial strain and payment limitations.
TV Tropes' global accessibility is being undermined by unfair pricing practices.

We respectfully urge TV Tropes, along with PayPal and Stripe, to:

* Implement regional pricing tiers based on local economies.
* Offer alternative local payment methods where PayPal/Stripe are unavailable or expensive.
* Consider temporary price relief or discounts for countries hardest hit by the trade war and inflation.

TV Tropes should remain accessible to all users, regardless of nationality or financial situation. We're asking TV Tropes leadershipits CEO, staff, mods, developers, editors, and partnersto support the community that supports them.
