Fair compensation and recognition for Dental Assistants

Fair compensation and recognition for Dental Assistants
The Issue
I am a dental assistant who has been working in this field for over seven years. From the start of my career, the workload has been immense, yet the compensation is minimal. I have known assistants who have been in this profession for over 30 years, and their wages are unjustly low. It is absurd!
Dental assistants are critical to providing quality dental care. We perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Despite our essential role in oral healthcare delivery, we remain underpaid and unappreciated.
According to data from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as of May 2020, dental assistants made an average wage of $19.27 per hour or $40,080 per year (source: BLS). This pay scale does not reflect our expertise or the physical demands that come with our job.
We need fair wages that reflect our skills and contributions to healthcare services. We deserve respect for our work which goes beyond assisting dentists; we provide comfort to patients during procedures; we educate them about oral health; we ensure sterilization protocols are adhered to maintain safety standards.
It's time for change! Let's stand together to demand better compensation for dental assistants across the country! Please sign this petition if you believe in fair pay for hard work!
