Fair chocolate - Provide more child labour-free chocolate options at Exeter University

Fair chocolate - Provide more child labour-free chocolate options at Exeter University
The Issue
Please sign to ensure a wider selection of slavery-free and child labour free chocolate in the Marketplace Shops on campus.
Everyone loves chocolate, but we need to be mindful of where it is sourced. 70% of the world’s chocolate is sourced in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. According to the NORC Report in 2020, more than 1.56 million child labourers work in chocolate production in these two countries.
Children engage in dangerous work in cocoa production, including burning fields, cutting down trees and spraying pesticides. Many of them are also forced to work and some are victims of human trafficking, both of which are classed as the worst forms of child labour by the International Labour Organization.
We want the Marketplace shops at Exeter University to increase the amount of child labour-free chocolate brands they sell to equal the brands which do not use the Fairtrade label, so that students have a wider selection. The Marketplace should offer the chocolates of the brands like Solkiki, COCO chocolate, Enjoy! and Forever cacao.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please help us achieve our goal in getting the shops on Exeter University campus to sell more ethical chocolate brands.
Yours,
Katie, Elisa, Aliz and Kriszti
