Fireworks! What a beautiful sight! But this magical illumination of light has a deep, dark secret. Did you realize how many animals suffer fatalities from fireworks every year in Aotearoa? Every single year SPCA receives dozens of callouts that are made up of animal injuries, frightened animals, and missing pets. Would you want your beloved pet to end up as a statistic? I know I definitely wouldn't! Nobody wants their companion to go through life-threatening dangers. 

If our government continues letting people light fireworks on their properties, imagine how many more animals will have to deal with the consequences. Do our SPCAs need more strain, even though they are practically full? I think not. We shouldn't have to be responsible for another's actions when lighting fireworks because so many things can go wrong. Our pets deserve to be safe in their backyards, instead of cowering with terror because of some light show for human enjoyment.
