Facilitate Access to Telemedicine for Opioid Use Disorder Treatment

Facilitate Access to Telemedicine for Opioid Use Disorder Treatment
The Issue
I am a survivor of Opioid Use Disorder. My journey has been marked by the relentless pursuit of opioids, not out of choice, but due to the lack of viable, easily accessible Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) options in my area - Charleston, SC. This is a struggle that many others face daily.
Opioid Use Disorder affects millions nationwide. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 2 million people had an opioid use disorder in 2018. Yet only a fraction receive MAT - the gold standard for treating this disorder.
Telemedicine can bridge this gap by providing remote access to treatment services. However, current regulations make it difficult for individuals with Opioid Use Disorder to receive MAT via telemedicine.
We need policy changes that facilitate access to telemedicine for those struggling with Opioid Use Disorder. By doing so, we can ensure that everyone has access to life-saving treatment options regardless of their location or circumstances.
Join me in urging lawmakers and health authorities in Charleston and across the country to make it easier for people like us with Opioid Use Disorder to receive Medication Assisted Treatment via Telemedicine. Please sign this petition today!
