To include Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria, on the list of current city on Facebook
The Issue
AGO-IWOYE, OGUN STATE (and not Ago-Iwoye, Oyo, not Ago, Ogun)
Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, is a town in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria with a population of 159,000. It is one of the most popular towns in the State. The town is made up of seven strategic districts which include Idode, Imere, Isamuro, Ibipe, Imososi, Igan and Imosu. His Royal Highness Oba Abdulrazak Adenugba is the current Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye . Ago Iwoye hosts the State University, Olabisi Onabanjo University (formerly known as Ogun State University) which was established in 1982. Though the town was founded in 1510, it did not receive its official name until 1931 which was as a result of the efforts and petition of the Agọ-Iwoye Progress Union inaugurated in 1926. Among the prominent indigenes of Ago Iwoye are Professor Sanya Onabamiro, first Nigerian Professor of Copepodology, Brigadier Babafemi Ogundipe, former Chief of Staff at the Supreme Headquarters under Aguiyi Ironsi, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye, former Minister of State for Finance from 1999-2003, Mr. Olusola Ogundipe, former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service and Prince 'Segun Adesegun, former deputy governor of Ogun State.
In spite of the strategic importance of Ago-Iwoye in the socio-political economy of Ogun State, Nigeria, Facebook has failed to list its name correctly. What is on the Facebook's list of city is Ago-Iwoye, Oyo as well as Ago, Ogun. These are not the same as Ago-Iwoye, Ogun. Ago-Iwoye, Ogun is an entity on its own.
Therefore, I request that the city's name is properly listed as Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, to enable about 160,000 residents of the town identify with it.
Thanks.
