Stop allowing “pet” monkey videos on Facebook and YouTube
The Issue
I have been watching videos recently of monkeys who are kept by humans in such places as Cambodia. These people are making money from views on Facebook and YouTube by exploiting these animals. Most of them are just showing baths and putting on diapers as well as feeding milk from baby bottles. Many are showing abuse such as slapping, putting them in corners for “time outs” ignoring baby cries to be held (thinking their tantrums are cute). One in particular I have seen is called Monkey Jojo. In every video all I see is abuse to this creature in the form of letting a dog “play” with him and a small kitten where both are crying out in fear. The one I watched today, but from January 2021 shows this persons child dressing “jojo” and then the camera man just films this monkey who is obviously in fear running around the room. As well, it appears he is dangling a belt as if to induce further fear. This also leads me to believe this monkey is being physically abused behind the camera. We have to be the voice for these defenceless monkeys. Let’s demand Facebook and YouTube ban these videos and from these abusers and from making money off of these videos. They will make money regardless of good or bad comments so the only way to stop them is to take away their option to post these videos.
