I currently have my relationship status as "in an open relationship with (my main partner whom I live with)", however, that's not really how I would describe our relationship. I wanted to petition for Facebook to make a few changes to make their platform more polyamorous friendly and be more inclusive the LGBTQ folks. For instance, instead of have an "open relationship" be our only option maybe they could change it to "in a polyamorous relationship" as open relationships are just one type of relationships under the polyamorous umbrella but not the only type. As a polyamorous person and an LGBTQ advocate and educator I get really annoyed when people use "open relationship" and "polyamorous" as synonyms as if they are the same thing but they are not, not inherently. I feel as if Facebook changing this could open a discussion about polygamous relationships and lead to more education. Not only that but I feel as if we should have the choice to list all of our partners instead of just the one person we are in a relationship with. I am with four people... Why can't I put them all down? It honestly would not be that big of a change but it could really make a difference. Ot may be a small thing but the same things are what spark changes sometimes.
