Higher guidelines on social media to restrict animal harassment content
I live in the state of Hawaii (and as you may know), it is a tourism hotspot. Millions of tourists come every year and spend billions of dollars. Tourism seems great and perfect, but that's not always the case. Tourists disturb, harass, and sometimes physically hurt native animals. In most incidences, they target monk seals and the green sea turtle. Both of these animal species are endangered and have a very short population. Many of these tourists post videos or pictures of themselves doing these unsafe behaviors and putting them on popular social media platforms. The moderation system is passing this type of content because it technically passes the community guidelines. This is not acceptable. These online posts can influence other people to do the same. Not only are they harming the animal, but they can also be harming themselves. This type of behavior is not acceptable. This needs to stop now! Don't let people be inspired to bother animals for fifteen seconds of fame on the internet. By signing this petition, you take one step forward towards these social media companies changing their guidelines. Let's not let the green sea turtles and monk seals be gone for good.
