I attend Streetsboro High School and this year it has been brought to my attention about the dress code. I haven’t realized it until now but me and many females are concerned with what’s on the dress code. Most of the rules are point led towards women and what we can and cannot wear. Me and many other students decided to do something about this and protest against it. While protesting at school, I was called down to the office by the assistant principal. She told me that me protesting and making posters and telling students to join was illegal and that she doesn’t make the laws, she enforces them. Protesting isn’t illegal nor anything against the law. I know my rights and know it is my first amendment to protest and use my voice, along with my fellow classmates. It also says in the student handbook I have the right to act and speak as long as I’m peaceful about it and I was. Many students don’t look to the issues on what’s going on but I have been. I noticed how girls are picked piece by piece and they blame the boys and use them as an excuse to why we can’t wear specific clothing. Boys are not the issue! The teachers are. The assistant principal. Shoulders don’t bother anyone and neither does a belly button or someone’s leg. Teachers have made the dress code sexual and inappropriate. We’re students and we should not be, being treated the way we are. We have every right to speak and stand for our rights and not to be pushed down as women.
