Emily Barber started this petition to Facebook

Facebook currently refuses to take down posts promoting senseless violence towards animals, particularly wild animals which are unfairly dismissed under the term ‘animal abuse’.

Mass shooting of birds, killing of deer with graphic photos uploaded of their injuries, photos of dogs’ paws snapped in traps that instantly break the bones and leave them fighting to escape before being killed. Videos of animals being purposefully drowned, animals chained up and filmed writhing in pain, ferrets shown like trophies having been slit open along the abdomen with a blade and left to bleed to death.

Although this is animal abuse, Facebook does not acknowledge these posts as being against their rules unless the abuse is towards typical pets (cats, dogs, etc). The company continues to disregard the lives of wild animals by allowing the publication of violence, torture and murder of these innocent creatures. Reporting these posts is returned with an acknowledgement that they may be distressing, but the company refuses to do anything about it.

Demand Facebook takes responsibility for the power of its platform by preventing its users promoting animal abuse and by looking more closely into reports filed under this field, doing so with the view that the harm of ANY animal - especially ‘for fun’ - is abuse. Allowing users who post videos of them hunting animals and watching them bleed out whilst laughing, then later posting pictures of the dead bodies, allows this abuse to continue without retribution. The company ignores reports which call for these posts to be removed so as not to promote this behaviour.

Facebook is effectively turning a blind eye on behaviour that inflicts pain on innocent, sentient beings. The company needs to consider its values towards ANY and ALL types of violence and animal abuse.
