Complete Shutdown of Facebook & Twitter for Election Night 2020

The Issue

Political disinformation on social media platforms has reached all Americans and created an environment of uncertainty. We can not rely upon social media corporations to distinguish truth from fiction with something as consequential as the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.

For this reason, Facebook, Inc. and Twitter, Inc. must completely shut down their respective sites and allow America's democratic process to run its course without the disinformation and manipulation that may cause the results of the election to be brought into question. The shutdown should take place upon the closing of the last poll (Pacific Time) and remain in place through 11:59 pm, November 4th.

We, Americans, have found ways to recognize the humanity of those on an opposing side and come together for healing and regeneration after passionate debate and conflict. The night of November 3rd represents more than an election, it will be a test of our capacity to be good neighbors and upstanding citizens.

Facebook, Inc., and Twitter, Inc. do not identify as media companies, yet, collectively, these organizations have the power to influence beyond our imaginations. We must demand that the leaders of these organizations step up for the greater good and preserve our most sacred democratic process into the future.
