Be Smart, Use Netiquette.

The Issue

Not all the user of internet are oriented about the Netiquette (Networks Etiquette). So, this petition aimed to explain and let the netizen understand/know how to apply the correct usage of netiquette in using internet.

Netiquette is a combination of the words network and etiquette and is defined as a set of rules for acceptable online behavior. Similarly, online ethics focuses on the acceptable use of online resources in an online social environment.

The golden rule states that you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In terms of netiquette, this means that you should not use improper web conduct that you would not appreciate from others. Poor netiquette may include, but is not limited to, annoyances such as an angry tone, utilization of caps, heavy use of the singular first-person pronoun, flaming and spamming.

The Netiquette Rules

Rule #1: Remember the Human. (Never forget that the person reading your mail or posting is, indeed, a person, with feelings that can be hurt.)

Rule #2:  Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life. (Be ethical.)

Rule #3: Know where you are in cyberspace. (Netiquette varies from domain to domain.)

Rule #4: Respect other people's time and bandwidth. (It's OK to think that what you're doing at the moment is the most important thing in the universe, but don't expect anyone else to agree with you.)

Rule #5: Make yourself look good online. (Check grammar and spelling before you post.)

Rule #6: Share expert knowledge. ( Offer answers and help to people who ask questions on discussion groups.)

Rule #7: Help keep flame wars under control. ( Don't respond to flame-bait.)

Rule #8:  Respect other people's privacy. (Don't read other people's private email.)

Rule #9: Don't abuse your power. (The more power you have, the more important it is that you use it well.)

Rule #10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes. (Be forgiving of other people's mistakes.)
