Ban Kevin Martin from Facebook .
The Issue
Kevin Martin is a " fictional " meteorologist . He has several sites on Facebook such as Weather Alert.com , on which he posts fictional weather forecasts , as well as fake weather watches and warnings . He has no meteorological education , accreditations , or credentials . He has recently caused a panic along the U.S. gulf coast by issuing a fake hurricane warning 10 days in advance . Modern meteorological science cannot predict with ANY accuracy where a tropical system will be in 10 days . Persons in his " fake " hurricane warning area began to make preparations to move inland in advance of this purported hurricane . The storm in question did not get anywhere near the gulf coast , in fact , it didn't even graze Florida as it turned north and then northeast out over the Atlantic Ocean . Companies with business and/or meetings in the region cancelled their plans and activities in the region during that time period . In addition , families cancelled their vacation and travel plans to the region just in case Kevin Martin was right . He was not , not even close . The NOAA National Hurricane Center even put out a statement to the contrary stating there was no threat to the gulf coast to quell public concern over this " official looking " forecast . The National Weather Service followed stating that on-line weather organizations should be viewed with caution and the products that are put out should be taken with a grain of salt . They went on to explain the limits of modern forecasting technology and that the National Weather Service is a federal entity and that they are the only organization authorized to issue weather watches and warnings . Even The Weather Channel called him out over his fake forecasts . Kevin Martin has gone to extreme lengths with Facebook to protect his pages and constantly reminds them of his advertising budget with them , which only totals in the hundreds of dollars . He is constantly harrasing legitimate meteorologists and storm chasers on Facebook and refers to storm chasers as " the bottom of the employment ladder " . Kevin Martin states that he doesn't need a piece of paper , ( a degree ) , to forecast weather . As ridiculous as that sounds , those are his words and he actually believes it . Federal tax dollars fund the National Weather Service and they are tasked with keeping the American public informed regarding either tranquil or potentially severe weather events . I personally work for WTVR CBS 6 in Richmond Virginia . I have accreditations and certifications through my local NWS office in Wakefield Virginia . I'm not a meteorologist yet , but I am constantly working toward attaining that . I chase professionally for the best team of meteorologists in central Virginia . Kevin Martin has NONE of this . He has personally threatened me with contacting my station and having me fired and such . Needless to say , he didn't get me fired because every professional meteorologist and storm chaser knows he is a FAKE .I respectfully request he be banned from Facebook before he gets someone hurt or killed as a result of his reckless and negligent activities . Is Facebook REALLY that concerned about his " less than modest " advertising dollar ? Thank you for taking time to read this and please sign the petition . God bless ?
