We were back in court this week challenging our mass sacking and blacklisting.
Huge news! The judge ruled Facebook is the “owner of the digital work of content moderation and the owner of the digital workplace,” – that means it is therefore responsible for us as its moderators irrespective of any outsourcing arrangement.
The good news doesn’t stop there. The judge also told Facebook and Sama that they must hold our jobs in place – and to pay us – pending the full hearing of the Constitutional petition.
This achievement is a huge win, such good news and well pleasing as the order is a major blow to the outsourcing model Facebook uses to avoid responsibility for us, its key safety workers and we hope it changes the social media industry.
But as of today and despite the court orders – we still haven’t been paid and many of us are struggling to pay our bills and feed our families. This legal win is a big step forwards, but we are still fundraising for our basic costs to live as this case progresses. So please continue to chip in whatever you can afford and share this page widely.
Thank you so much and we will keep you posted as the case progresses.
