The Issue

Since 2018 E.M.C.F a UK Registered Charity  (1197051) has been at the forefront providing essential Islamic services to the most deprived community in Leicester-shire. Since 2018, we've been hiring out a hall at our local community centre (Eyres Monsell Community Centre) on Hillsborough Road. The charity has been using the community centre as a base to host weekly Friday prayers, with users attending up to 150+. Weekdays Islamic educational classes for the children, with 30 currently enrolled and 25 applicants pending their application due to limited space at the centre.

Since 2018, our community has grew and grew, so as the demands. The current base at our local centre wasn't fit for purpose to extend our services due to their opening/closing times and closures during festive periods.

In 2023 we have successfully purchased the former pub, The Glen, located on Hillsborough Road, Leicester LE2 9PT. It's a close proximity from our base at the community centre.

Since our planning application went live, we have viewed few genuine concerns regarding parking and noise on the objection comments and on social media (Facebook) The objections has been clearly addressed and the noise and travel plan is available to  read on L.C.C application portal.

As I continue reading the comments, specially on social media, we have noticed disturbed, vile Islamophobic comments, which have been reported to the authorities to be dealt with accordingly.

Now, after the objections of noise and travel has been cleared, the objectors have created a private group within their circle to circulate misinformation regarding the place of worship, as well as creating a petition to combat the propose application. In their petition, their aim is to halt the approval of the propose place of worship due to the current building “heritage” and memories, which clearly is a smoke screen! Majority of the comments was to transform the pub in to a shopping centre, accommodations, youth centre etc. But within the Monsell Estate we have the EMYCP,  an UK registered charity, ran by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, focused on supporting the Eyres Monsell Community. 170 Whitteney Dr, Leicester LE2 9AQ Secondly we have 2 Co-op stores located within close proximity in the estate. Thirdly we have the Eyres Monsell Community Centre allowing communities to join in game nights, dance class,  indoor bowling, slimming world & tea, coffee & bingo . Fourthly, we have 4 churches within close proximity to accommodate the Christian faith.

Hence, this is the first place of worship for a Mosque that will surely suffice the needs of the community of Eyres Monsell. The management propose its plans to use the Mosque not only for a place of worship but a community hub to assists those in need.  The Glen Pub was an abandoned property for years, exposed to crime and A.S.B, attracting unwanted loitering around the property which would lead to excessive crime around the estate. This charity came together and would like to give life to the property which will dissolve unwanted nuisance in the community of Eyres Monsell & beyond.

We need your support for the propose application, together we can change the landscape of our estate to better our community and make it a beacon of unity, community cohesion & assistance to all.
