Every Halloween, my neighbourhood is filled with children who are eager to enjoy the spirit of the holiday. However, the current trick-or-treating hours end at 6pm, which just isn't enough time for all the festivities, especially since Halloween falls on a weekend this year. As a parent, I want my children to experience the joy and magic of Halloween without feeling rushed. Many other parents in our community feel the same way.

Halloween is one of the few times each year when our community truly comes alive with decorations, spooky stories, and costumes. It's a night many of us look forward to, not just for the candy, but for the opportunity to bond with our neighbours. Limiting trick-or-treating to just three or four hours dampens this experience and doesn't give kids enough time to safely enjoy visiting different houses.

In states like New Jersey and other parts of the country, extended weekend Halloween hours have been successfully implemented, allowing families to enjoy more quality time. Extending our hours to 8pm ensures kids can safely experience the holiday without the pressure of a tight deadline, accommodates working parents getting home, and respects the local traditions without compromising safety.

Let's come together as a community and ask our local authorities to revise the trick-or-treating schedule to extend until 8pm. This extra time will create lasting memories for our children and continue the cherished tradition of trick-or-treating in our area.
